The Care Guide

Care that keeps
it precious.

A few simple habits will keep your Luther's Diamonds piece looking the way it did the day it left our studio. Below: the universal rules, plus what's specific to each metal.

The universal rules

What to avoid.

× Wearing your jewelry in pools, hot tubs, or the ocean
× Showering, bathing, or sleeping in your pieces
× Applying lotion, perfume, or sunscreen while wearing
× Cleaning products, bleach, and other harsh chemicals
× Lifting weights or rough activity with rings on
× Storing pieces loose where they can scratch each other
Metal 01

Sterling Silver.

Silver is soft, expressive, and lives to be polished. With a little routine care, it stays bright for years.

Daily care
  • Remove before showering, swimming, or sleeping
  • Put it on last — after perfume, lotion, and makeup
  • Wipe gently with a soft cloth after each wear
  • Store in a sealed pouch or lined box to slow tarnish
Cleaning ritual
  1. Soak

Mix warm water with a few drops of mild dish soap. Let the piece sit for 10 to 15 minutes to loosen oils and buildup.

  2. Brush

Use a soft-bristled toothbrush — never paper towels — to gently work into engravings and crevices. Light pressure, small circles.

  3. Polish

A jewelry polishing cloth, used in light circular motions, restores shine. Avoid abrasive cloths or chemical dips, which can damage finish.

  4. Rinse and dry

Rinse under clean water, then pat dry with a lint-free cloth. Let it sit out for a few minutes before storing.

Metal 02

Solid Gold.

Solid gold — yellow, white, and rose — is forgiving and durable. The goal is to keep it free of buildup, so the shine stays effortless.

Daily care
  • Remove before showering, swimming, or sleeping
  • Put it on last — after perfume, lotion, and makeup
  • Wipe gently with a soft cloth after each wear
  • Store separately to avoid scratches from harder metals
Cleaning ritual
  1. Soak

Warm water and a few drops of mild dish soap. Soak for about 15 minutes — safe for yellow gold, white gold, rose gold, and diamond settings.

  2. Brush

Soft-bristled toothbrush, gentle pressure. Pay extra attention to engravings, prong settings, and the underside of stones where oils collect.

  3. Rinse

Rinse thoroughly under clean, cool water. If you're rinsing in a sink, close the drain or place a small mesh filter — better safe than sorry.

  4. Air dry

Pat with a soft cloth and let it finish drying on its own. Avoid paper products, which can leave fine scratches on the polished surface.

Metal 03

Platinum.

Platinum is the most durable metal we work with, and it develops a soft natural patina over time — many wearers come to love it. When you want the original shine back, a quick clean does it.

Daily care
  • Store separately — platinum can scratch softer gemstones nearby
  • Avoid extreme heat and humidity when storing long-term
  • Keep in a soft, dry place — a lined box or pouch is ideal
  • Remove before chemical exposure (cleaning products, chlorine)
Cleaning ritual
  1. Soak

Warm water with a few drops of mild dish soap. Soak for about 15 minutes to lift everyday oils and residue.

  2. Brush

Soft-bristled toothbrush only. Platinum is durable, but its polished surface can show fine marks from anything abrasive.

  3. Rinse and dry

Rinse under clean water and pat dry with a lint-free cloth. Soft cloth or microfiber only — never paper towels.

  4. Bring it in for a refinish

For a full mirror polish — once every few years is enough — send it to us. A short visit to the bench will bring it back to original condition.
