What Is a Bow Tie?

A bow tie is the darker band that appears across the center of many oval, marquise, and pear-shaped diamonds.

It's a natural light contrast created by how elongated brilliant cuts reflect light.

Important: A bow tie is not automatically a bad thing. Many beautifully cut ovals have one.

The real issue is a dead spot — a flat, lifeless area with no light return.

At Luther's Diamonds, we never source ovals with dead spots. Ever.

Luther's Oval™ simply reduces the appearance of bow tie through modified faceting.
