Friction or screw — your call

Two backings. Same price. Always.

Most jewelers charge $50–100 more for screw backs. We don't believe in punishing you for wanting security — or for preferring the classic look. Either backing. You choose what fits your life.

friction grip threads & locks FRONT BACK

The classic stud profile

A butterfly back slides onto a smooth post and grips by friction. The slim, low-set look that defines the iconic diamond stud — and the back of choice for most fine jewelry.

Perfect for

Occasional wear, evening events, sensitive ears, and quick on-and-off.

Either backing. Same price. Always. Choose your backing at checkout. Same price either way — no upcharges, no hidden fees, no "premium" tier.

Common questions

Before you buy

Friction backs (sometimes called butterfly backs) push onto a smooth post and grip by friction. Quick to put on, slim profile, classic look — and what most fine diamond studs ship with. Screw backs use a threaded post and a screw nut that twists into place — they physically lock and won't slide off, even if bumped or worn at night. Both are equally well-made; the choice is about your lifestyle, not quality.
Ask yourself one question: have you ever lost an earring, or do you worry you might? If yes — screw backs. If you mostly wear earrings for events and take them off at home, friction backs are the classic choice and will feel completely natural. Still unsure? Email us with how you plan to wear them and we'll give you our honest take. The backing is set in production and isn't easily swapped later, so it's worth getting right the first time.
Both options are nickel-free and use the same hypoallergenic alloy, so sensitivity isn't usually the deciding factor. That said, friction backs tend to sit a bit flatter against the back of the lobe, which some sensitive-eared wearers prefer. If you've reacted to earrings before, mention it in your order notes — we'll add an extra polish step to the post.
Hold the diamond at the front, slide the threaded post through your earlobe, then twist the screw nut clockwise from behind until it stops gently against your lobe — don't overtighten. The first few times feel slow; after that, it's automatic. We include a step-by-step card in the box, and a video link if you'd rather watch.
Two reasons. First, every diamond we set is lab-grown — chemically and optically identical to mined diamonds, but at roughly a third of the cost. Second, we're a family workshop, not a multi-store retailer with a markup chain. The savings of both come back to you. The grading standard — DEF / VS2+ / Triple Excellent / IGI — is the same as the most respected mined-diamond retailers, just at a fraction of the price.
We work in 14K solid gold across all three colors (white, yellow, rose) plus Platinum 950 — the most common standards in fine jewelry — so they will almost certainly match. If you're unsure, email us a photo of your existing piece and we'll let you know honestly whether the tone will match before you order.
Each pair is made to order. After you approve the diamond video, production takes 5–10 business days, then we ship via FedEx Priority with full insurance and signature on delivery. Domestic US orders typically arrive 2–3 business days after dispatch; international shipping is 3–7 business days. If you have a specific deadline, email us — we can almost always accommodate rush orders at no extra charge.
Please do. Jack and the family answer every email personally — usually within a few hours. Email us, text us, or book a 15-minute video call to see the earrings in person before you commit. At this price point we'd rather you ask 20 questions than guess.
